The local area and the near mainland offer plentiful visitor attractions and countless walks for all abilities. Further afield are the famous Eilean Donan and Dunvegan Castles. Portree, Skye’s capital, has an attractive harbour where boats take visitors to view sea eagles. Boat trips are also available in many villages, and guided walks can be organised. The Clan Donald Centre in the south of Skye has wooded gardens for sheltered ambles and impressive views to the mainland and a museum and genealogy centre. The spectacular Cuillin mountains offer challenges for experienced and properly-equipped climbers, while the lower slopes of numerous hills can be walked if you have sensible boots and outdoor clothing. There are a number of indoor visitor centres offering a variety of distractions for those inevitable rainy days.

There is an otter observation hide at Kylerhea and the nearby six-car ferry to Glenelg offers a unique experience crossing the tidal race to the mainland, close to some of the best examples of Brochs in Scotland.

The Talisker distillery produces Skye’s only malt whiskey and is open to visitors. There are several producers of quality and distinctive Isle of Skye souvenirs such as chocolate, fudge, hand-made soaps and cosmetics, jewellery, knitwear and tweeds. The Isle of Skye Smokehouse in Broadford offers a range of smoked and fresh seafood.

Many quality restaurants can be found all around the island, and Broadford has eating places right across the range within walking distance of the cottage. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
